Portrait Studies

The subject is not the face. It is what the face withholds. Suffering, vulnerability, what a person carries and does not show. Each portrait is painted without knowing the outcome. Deconstructed, distorted, worked until the image asserts itself before thought, before analysis, before the brain engages. Close up, paint. Step back, a person. Never fully resolved, never fully arrived at.
